Sadie by Courtney Summers

Sadie by Courtney Summers was fantastic! This young adult mystery suspense novel follows a teenage girl named Sadie whos life has never been the easiest. She grew up on her own and tried her best to raise her younger sister Mattie on her own. When Mattie is found dead Sadie is devastated and after terrible police investigation decides to use the few leads she has to go after her sister’s killer.

West McCray, a radio host who happens to be working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America, hears of Sadie’s story and immediately becomes with finding her. He begins his own podcast following his attempt to follow Sadie’s track and find her before something terrible can happen to her.

This book was extremely well written and the plot was great. I wasn’t bored at all which I was super afraid of because I’ve never read a suspense novel and not been bored at some point during the story. One of my favorite things about this book is the switch from Sadie’s story while it’s happening in the past and the podcast investigation that is happening in the present. I especially loved the podcast parts but I think that may have been because I listened to the audiobook which was amazing. The audiobook is narrated by a full cast so you feel like your actually listening to a podcast when you listen to those portions and you can listen to the voice of each character. I also really enjoyed the characters and how the author showed the reaction to the difficult events happening in the book. It all felt very real and authentic to how someone Sadie’s age would react. I only really have one minor issue which was the underdevelopment of a few minor characters that were essential to the plot. While the reader is given enough information to understand the character and their importance to the plot of the story, I felt as though they need to be given a more developed personality. I rated this book five out of five stars, I loved it and would definitely recommend it!
