About the English as a Second Language
Welcome to the Fort Lee Library ESL Program!
We offer ESL classes for students at all levels. Our program is led by trained volunteers who will help you improve your English skills.
Anyone with a valid Fort Lee library card can take classes.
Registration for the Spring session is now closed.
Please check back with us in May for more information about the Summer ESL session.
Note: Our program gives priority to students at the beginner to intermediate levels. Due to high demand, we cannot guarantee placement of students who have been in the program for two or more years.

Anyone with a valid Fort Lee Library card can take classes. If you don’t have a library card, stop by the Circulation Desk or apply at fortleelibrary.org/about/get-a-library-card.
Due to high demand, classroom instruction is open only to students who have been in the program for less than two years. Students who have been in the program for two or more years won’t be placed in the program unless there is room in Conversation Circles.
All other students will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full.
The registration fee each semester is $30.00. Students must pay before classes start.
Students can take one class each semester. If more tutors become available, we may offer additional classes.
Classes are held Monday- Friday (Saturday depends on tutor availability). Students are placed into classes based on skill and the availability listed on their registration form.
We offer morning, afternoon and evening classes. Classes consist of 5-7 students.
Beginner- Intermediate students are placed into Instructional classes that run for 1 hour 30 min.
High Intermediate- Advanced students are placed into Conversation classes that run for 1 hour.
Due to high demand, we cannot accommodate requests for specific classes or tutors.
Most classes will take place in person. Zoom classes can be held depending on student interest and tutor availability.
Students who miss the registration deadline will have to register in the next session. There are no waiting lists for classes. Please check out our ESL resources for information on other ESL programs in the area.
Registration for the Spring 2023 session is now closed. Please check back in May for more information about the Summer ESL session.
