Note: Our program gives priority to students at the beginner to intermediate levels. Students at the advanced level can participate only in Conversation Circles.

Anyone with a valid Fort Lee Library card can take classes. If you don’t have a library card, stop by the Circulation Desk or apply at

Due to high demand, classroom instruction is open only to students who have been in the program for less than two years. Students who have been in the program for two or more years won’t be placed in the program unless there is room in Conversation Circles.

We give priority to new students and students at the beginner to intermediate level. Advanced students can participate in Conversation Circles.

All other students will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full.

The registration fee each semester is $30.00. Students must pay before classes start.

Students can take one class each semester. If more tutors become available, we may offer additional classes.

We place students in classes based upon skill level and availability. Due to high demand, we cannot accommodate requests for specific classes or tutors.

Most classes will take place in person. Zoom classes can be held depending on student interest and tutor availability.

Students who miss the registration deadline will have to register in the next session. There are no waiting lists for classes. Please check out our ESL resources for information on other ESL programs in the area.
